Covid: Who Was Right?

After three years of Covid-19, what lessons can we learn? Did lockdowns work? What about closing schools? What countries did best?

John Stossel says it turns out that America’s lockdowns did not work. Even though the media praised New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for an “amazing job,” his state ended up with more deaths than “irresponsible” Florida. Meanwhile, some countries, like Australia, imposed brutal lockdowns.

“My producer crunched the numbers at MaximumTruth.Substack.com and found that lockdowns did save some lives,” Stossel says. “But they weren’t worth it.” Here’s his report.

The Science Of Happiness

John Stossel reports that people are often born happy, or unhappy, due to wiring in our brains, but fortunately, there are things that all of us can do to become happier.

He welcomes psychology professor Sonja Lyubomirsky to the podcast, who says socializing is hugely associated with making people happy. What other things bring us happiness? Professor Lyubomirsky tells us more.

Black Guns Matter

Maj Toure, founder of Black Guns Matter, tells John Stossel he wants to arm more people in America. “Criminals should be deathly afraid,” he says.

Stossel says Toure carries a gun with him everywhere he goes and he encourages others to do the same. His group trains people, especially black communities, how to safely use firearms. Why black communities? Because “gun control is racist,” Toure says. Here’s Stossel’s report.

Electric Cars: Inconvenient Facts

John Stossel says politicians and activists who want all cars to go electric are guilty of magical thinking. But most of what politicians, activists and electric car sellers say about electric cars is just wrong.

Fact is, electric car sales are up 66 percent this year and Joe Biden says the future is “electric and there’s no turning back.” Adding fuel to that statement, liberal states like California and New York are banning sales of new gas-powered vehicles completely. We’re told they’ll help us use less oil.

Stossel says it just can’t happen. In the following two-part series, he points out a series of inconvenient facts about electric cars that politicians and activists just don’t understand. Here’s his report.

Obama’s Netflix Propaganda

John Stossel reports that Netflix paid Barack and Michelle Obama millions of dollars to produce movies and TV shows. Stossel says their latest documentary series, The G Word, is astoundingly stupid.

The G Word, hosted by comedian Adam Conover, was approved by Obama, who makes occasional cameo appearances on the show.  The six-part series, Stossel says, pushes big government propaganda, instead of doing honest reporting. Here’s more.

Myths About Hurricanes

John Stossel says a lot of what the media and politicians tell us about hurricanes is just wrong.

As in the case with Hurricane Ian, which destroyed parts of Florida last week, we are always told that only FEMA can provide relief, that storms are worse because of climate change, that price gouging is evil and that federal flood insurance is necessary, and helps poor people. Stossel reports that little of that is true and until we learn the myths about storms, we’ll make the same costly mistakes again and again. Here’s more.

Adam Carolla: No Apologies

“If AOC were fat and in her 60s, no one would listen to her,” says Adam Carolla.

Comments like that cause controversy. But Corolla won’t apologize.

“Apologizing just leads to more apologizing,” he tells me. Here, Carolla speaks with John Stossel.

Go Green, Go Hungry!

While hardcore environmental activists continue to push for a chemical-free world, countries around the world are experiencing mass starvation.

John Stossel reports that many governments have embraced the idea that pure nature is best, such as in Sri Lanka, where chemical fertilizer was banned, resulting in less food production and an 80 percent rise in prices. The move resulted in riots throughout the country, as Sri Lanka slipped into extreme poverty. “It’s out of control,” says environmentalist Michael Shellenberger. He joins Stossel to explain the green dogma.

Forbidden Parenting

John Stossel reports that the government sometimes arrests parents for giving kids responsibility. In South Carolina, Deborah Harrell was jailed for letting her 9-year-old daughter play in a park for the day.

Stossel says local media outlets breathlessly reported that Harrell left her daughter at the park “for hours at a time,” and that she “confessed” to that. A police interrogator lectured Harrell: “You can’t leave a child who is nine years old in the park by herself. What would you do if some sex offender came by?” Yet, despite media scare stories, kidnappings are extremely rare and are way down. Stossel explains further.

Where’s The Beef?

John Stossel reports that government meat safety rules can do more harm than good. They block you from healthy meat, help cause shortages and hurt farmers.

During the worst of Covid, many of us noticed beef shortages. Kentucky U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie tells Stossel, “You’d go to Wendy’s to buy a hamburger and they were out of hamburger. Yet you could see cattle from the drive-thru.” Stupid government rules, like “poke and sniff,” are to blame,” Stossel says. Here’s more.
