Come to the USA

Comedian/songwriter Ray Stevens weighs in on the immigration debate with a thought-provoking melody. Stevens sings, “Don’t go hiking and enter Iran, or you may never be heard from again, sneak into China and they’ll call you a spy, and in Mexico, you might face a firing squad. And forget all about going to North Korea, that’s a great example of a bad idea, so when it comes down to it, there’s only one option you got.” The good ol’ USA, of course. Tune in to hear the rest of the song, and come back here next Tuesday on LOL for some more of  the lighter side of life. — The Wickel

Obama’s Budget Debacle

Conservative, comedic songwriter Ray Stevens, well known for his parodies on hot-button political issues, takes a shot at the Obama Budget Plan. Stevens sings, “So I said let’s do what the government does. It works for them, it might work for us. So I forgot my ethics and morals, and swallowed my pride. We took out every credit card we could get, and loaded them up with maximum debt and borrowed from friends and family and even took out loans overseas.” You get the hang of it. …

And in this brief clip, Stevens quibbles with the government’s taxation policies. “If 10 percent is good enough for Jesus, well it ought to be enough for Uncle Sam,” he sings. We’ll be looking for you next Tuesday on LOL for another stroll through the lighter side of life. — The Wickel
