Revolution Spreads Across China

It’s being called the White Paper Revolution and it’s now spreading across Communist China. The protests against the government of Xi Jinping are the biggest China has seen since the 1989 Tiananmen Square uprising that led to a massacre of civilians by the Chinese military.

Why has it been named the White Paper Revolution? Because strict laws forbid any outright protests, so the demonstrators hold up blank sheets of paper that have no writing on them whatsoever.

The protesters are angry over rigid covid mandates, especially after a fire tore through an apartment complex in Urumqi, a remote city in China’s Xinjiang region. Urumqi residents suffering under a covid quarantine had been locked inside the complex and many burned to death, including a three-year-old child. The tragedy has brought citizens to the streets to call for Jinping’s resignation and an end to the lockdowns. Here, Steve Turley explains the growing crisis.

The move comes as the United States and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo unveil a harder stance against China, including sanctions for the persecution of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang and a national security law in Hong Kong, and a potential ban on Chinese apps like TikTok and Huawei 5G. China’s Concentration Camps

In western China, there’s a growing network of what journalists, former inmates, and the U.S. government are calling “concentration camps”—or what the Chinese government refers to as “vocational training centers.” They’re believed to hold between 1 and 3 million people, and perhaps as much as one-quarter of the Muslim population of Xinjiang Province. This is the story of how the CCP, or Chinese Communist Party, turned the Falun Gong into public enemy number 1. Who are the Falun Gong? Members of a popular spiritual meditation group that the CCP persecuted.  This was done by carefully manipulating an appeal made on April 25, 1999 in Zhongnanhai, Beijing, following the arrest of 45 practitioners in Tianjin.
