Will We Ever Visit the Stars?
We’ve managed to put a man on the Moon and robots on Mars, asteroids, and even Titan, a moon of Saturn. But will we ever travel to the stars in our lifetime? The nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is almost 4.3 light years–or about 25.8 trillion miles–away from Earth. Taking into the consideration the Helios 2 solar probe, the fastest-ever manmade object, which travels 157,000 mph, it would take 19,000 years to reach the star. Future technology offers some hope, says Vsauce host Michael Stevens. He examines some possibilities for future interstellar travel.
