We Are Dead Stars
While the saying “we are stardust” seems poetic but vague, it is literally true. We all are miracles of cosmic proportions. The atoms of your body were created in the cores of stars billions of years ago. “Your body had to be forged inside a star that died,” says astrophysicist and assistant director for Science Communication at NASA Michelle Thaller. “The Sun has been around the galaxy about 20 times since our star formed and that means that we’ve swept up material from all the stars clear across the galaxy. We’ve been through their clouds … their material is in us today.” Thaller further explains the process in the presentation on Tedx Talks.
