How Ice Ages Happen
Throughout Earth’s long history, there’s been dramatic changes to our climate. Ice ages have come and gone, but science has discovered a strong pattern that explains why ice ages happen known as the Milankovitch Cycles. The theory is based on two principles: first, the climate is affected by how much light the northern latitudes receive in the summer; second, the amount of sunlight varies based on the Earth’s orbit and rotation.
