Former NM State Rep Indicted
Former New Mexico State Representative Sheryl Williams Stapleton was indicted on 28 felony and misdemeanor charges in an alleged kickback scheme involving Albuquerque Public (APS) Schools, and businesses and charities she owned or had an interest in. If convicted of all charges, she faces decades in prison.
The Bernalillo County grand jury indictment included one count of racketeering, five counts of money laundering and several counts of soliciting or receiving kickbacks. Stapleton, a Democrat and former House Majority Leader in the Legislature, was also an APS administrator. More from KRQE-TV in Albuquerque.
