How will the shutdown end?
The plain-speaking Sen. John Kennedy, a Louisiana Republican, predicts Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer won’t go out of his way to end the shutdown. But Schumer could nudge a few of his Democratic colleagues to end the embarrassment and get the government back to work.
When will that be? Hard to say. Some forecasts even call for the shutdown to continue more than 40 days, which would make it the longest in record.
