Hidden Tunnels Into Canada

We have said how a series of underground tunnels connect the Finger Lakes region in New York with the Lake Ontario shorelines leading into Canada. This is quite a heavily populated area, encompassing not only Toronto but also Hamilton, Canada. Here is a look at the Canadian extension of the tunnel system — a tunnel veering underground near Hamilton.

As you can see, it has been traversed, as there are bottles and broken shards of glass everywhere. But this is not at all an easy route. The spelunkers — as tunnel or cave travelers are commonly called — have some really tight crevices to maneuver. They make it through, but they can’t always stand. Sometimes, they have to crawl and slither from one passage to another.

We brought up the tunnels because they are a prominent feature of the landscape surrounding the 11 Finger Lakes. Hunter Biden has a tattoo of the Finger Lakes on his back.

The tunnels were part of the Underground Railroad used by escaping slaves during the Civil War years. Later, they were used to transport Canadian rum into the United States during the Prohibition Era. More recently, they have served as conduits for human trafficking as well as the clandestine transport of drugs, weapons and other contraband. More from Caver461.
