City Paradise

A Japanese transplant to London has an unflattering view of her new environment, until she takes a deeper plunge and begins to see the beauty hidden by the grime and dreary weather.  This work by Gaelle Denis won the BAFTA, Britain’s equivalent of an Oscar, for best short animation in 2005. The music by Joanna Newsom fits perfectly with the surreal animation. Yes, it is strange, and undoubtedly an art film, but a lot of fun, and does leave a lingering impression.
