Speaker Boehner Resigns
In a stunning turn of events, Ohio congressman John Boehner has resigned as Speaker of the House. Boehner added that he will also leave his House seat at the end of October. “It became clear to me,” Boehner says, “that this prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable harm to the institution.” The Speaker had been under a wave of constant criticism from Tea Party conservatives and staunch GOP supporters for caving in to the demands of the Obama Administration.
