First Electronic Pop Hit
“Popcorn” wasn’t the first electronic song — Jimi Hendrix had already performed “Purple Haze” a few years earlier. But “Popcorn,” written by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 and made famous by Hot Butter in 1972, holds the distinction of being the first electronic song to become a No. 1 hit Since then, the song has been covered by a lot of bands and acts.
