But “Popcorn,” written by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 and made famous by Hot Butter in 1972, holds the distinction of being the first electronic song to become a No. 1 hit Since then, the song has been covered by a lot of bands and acts. Kingsley was a German-American composer and pioneer of the Moog synthesizer.
