Mummies for Gourmands
In the Middle Ages, Europeans brought back mummies from Egypt. Not to study them, necessarily, but to grind them into powder and devour the remains for medicinal purposes.
While mummification began as a process to preserve the remains of powerful kings, queens and nobles, from 1500 BC on, it had become far more commonplace. As many as 75 million mummies were created in this time period.
