Sticks and Stones Philosophy
Comedian Tom Shillue, host of “Red Eye” on Fox News Channel, explains how growing up in a politically incorrect, rough-and-tumble America was the only thing that could have prepared him for the real world. To combat the dilemma, Shillue says one oft-used adage by his mother–“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”–made a dramatic difference in his life. “Sticks and stones was actually a powerful bit of philosophy to a kid,” Shillue says. “You can actually choose whether or not to be hurt. You can’t choose whether or not a punch hurts.” Shillue explains further in this episode of Prager University.
