The Real Lady Godiva
Lady Godiva was an 11th-century countess, who gained worldwide notoriety for a horse ride, but everything you think you know about her is wildly inaccurate. The story we know is of this noblewoman riding naked through the streets of Coventry to satisfy a tax dispute with her husband, Leofric, Earl of Mercia in the English midlands. The story was embellished through the centuries, but the famous ride may have never happened. Or if it did, the circumstances were much different. Lance Geiger, more popularly known as The History Guy, gives us the historical lowdown on this fascinating tale.
