The War on Work

President Lyndon Johnson famously declared a war on poverty in the mid-’60s, but half a century later, the poverty rate remains virtually the same. Today, federal, state and local governments spend nearly $1 trillion combating poverty, benefits so generous they are discouraging people from working. Michael Tanner, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, details the government’s counterproductive effort to eliminate poverty and possible solutions to the dilemma in this edition of Prager University.
