The Atlantic slave trade, which forcibly brought more than 10 million African Americans to our shores, stands out for its global scale and lasting legacies. Occurring from the late 15th to the mid-19th centuries, the slave trade spanned three continents and the impact it left not only affected the slaves and their descendants, but also the economies and histories of large parts of the world.
