Why Planes Avoid Pacific Ocean

If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that planes more often than not take the overland route when traveling east to west, virtually avoiding the Pacific Ocean. Safety issues, you say? You’re partially correct. Fact is, that avoiding the Pacific by flying through Alaska saves time! Due to the curvature of Earth and its equatorial width, flying through the poles shaves a generous amount of time.
