Making Blood Type Universal
Accessing the right blood type in a medical emergency can be a matter of life or death. Today, blood types are categorized as A, B, AB and O, each with their own antibodies and antigens. Choosing the wrong type during a transfusion could mean trouble. But physiologist Patrick Kelly says there is hope on the horizon. Using a century of research and medical advancements in recent years, Kelly says scientists are developing a method to advance blood transfusion accessory even more to transform all donated blood to universal donor type.
