What It Was, Was Football

Before the iconic Andy Griffith rose to fame as the sheriff of Mayberry in the 1960s, he performed as a monologist, including a classic performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1953.

Portraying a preacher, Griffith entertains the Sullivan audience with his experience and interpretation of inadvertently attending a football game for the first time. Here’s Andy’s story in this version of the lighter side of life.
