Did Romans See A UFO?

Greek historian and philosopher Plutarch was credited with several texts on the rise and fall of  the Roman Republic.

But perhaps his most unusual writings came during the highly contentious Sertorian War from 80 to 72 B.C., where he recounts the appearance of a huge, flame-like body crashing to Earth between the two armies before they became engaged in battle. Plutarch wrote that the body was shaped like a wine jar and was molten silver in color.

The event was said to occur in Phrygia, in a region known as Otryae. Not surprisingly, both armies fled the battlefield. What exactly was Plutarch describing? Did he and the armies actually encounter a UFO? Here’s more from The Historian’s Craft.
