Is Alito Ready To Resign?

President Trump just received the kind of Supreme Court news that has Democrats on edge, because it may give him exactly what they swore they could block forever: another seat on the highest court in the land.

Rumors are swirling that Justice Samuel Alito, the court’s most reliably conservative voice, is positioning himself to retire ahead of the 2026 midterms, timed so that Trump and a Republican Senate can lock in his successor for decades.

Alito has hit the 20‑year mark on the Court, is releasing a major book, and has granted unusual interviews—all classic “legacy” moves that court‑watchers read as signals he may be ready to pass the baton while the White House and Senate are firmly in GOP hands. Here’s more from Stephen Gardner.
