Wage Increase Kills Jobs

The federally mandated mininum wage hike to $10.10 isn’t scheduled until 2015, and already the consequences are devastating. “Why doesn’t he (President Obama) make it take effect immediately? Well, because he doesn’t want the layoffs to happen before the midterm elections,” says financial commentator Peter Schiff. But the effects of the potential raise is already making a dent in employment on military bases. Schiff says anybody running a restaurant on a military base will be mandated to pay their employees the new minimum wage, regardless of the consequences. So what’s happening? “All these restaurants are closing … closing now in advance of 2015,” Schiff says. “They’re not renewing their contracts.” In this edition of The Peter Schiff Show, Schiff explains how raising the minimum wage for all Americans is a job killer.

Sticky Fingers of Government

Financial commentator Peter Schiff says living standards of non-farm American laborers have taken a mighty dip in the last 70 years. Applying the gold standard (real money) and allowing for inflation, Schiff calculated that the average non-farm American worker earned about $140,000 in 1947. Fast forward to today, and that same average has collapsed to $43,000. In this edition of The Peter Schiff Show, Schiff puts the blame squarely on the government. Listen in as he explains.

Hitting the Debt Target

President Barack Obama’s persistent refusal to acknowledge that raising the debt ceiling will raise the national debt, has at least one financial commentator in a frenzy. “The president again, is he lying or is he just a moron,” says Peter Schiff, who produces a financial show on Internet radio. “He (president) says that if we raise the debt ceiling, it doesn’t give us more debt, it just let’s us pay for things like Social Security, or veterans benefits or the greatest military in the world. How? How do we pay for all those things? With debt, by issuing debt, by borrowing money.” Schiff further explained that the debt ceiling is more of a debt target. The more you hit the target, the more you move it back, he says. Take in the rest of his rant in this edition of The Peter Schiff Show.
