Religious Tolerance in the West
There’s no argument that religious tolerance is a given in the West. Says University of Dayton history professor and author Larry Schweikart, “It’s not an exaggeration to say that America, where people of all faiths are free to worship or not worship as they please, invented modern religious tolerance.” But some historians suggest that this was the result of a historical aberration fraught by the Puritans and pre-1776 Americans.
