Mistakes That Changed History

Mistakes happen, but truly idiotic miscues have awful consequences. Take the French Revolution. Civil unrest during this period led to the frequent use of the guillotine. Among its victims were the then-ruling monarchy of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, whose deaths kicked off the Reign of Terror and led to thousands of executions, and the rise of Napoleon. But they didn’t need to die at all, and probably wouldn’t have if Louis XVI hadn’t made a whole series of dumb decisions. Learn how idiotic mistakes also affected the Challenger disaster, the Valdez oil spill and the destruction of the Berlin Wall, among others, in this edition of Grunge.
