Burchett Wants Diesel Curbs
President Donald Trump is facing an increasingly difficult diesel-price decision as U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, a Tennessee Republican, pushes Washington toward temporary export controls.
Burchett introduced two bills: One would halt U.S. diesel exports through January 2027, while another would trigger restrictions when the national average reaches $5 per gallon and keep them in place until prices remain at or below $4.50 for 30 days.
Burchett argues American refiners are profiting from stronger overseas prices while families, farmers and truckers absorb higher costs. Critics of export restrictions warn they could distort markets and potentially discourage refinery production. Here’s more from Stephen Gardner.
