Contaminated Masks
A totally random examination of a common surgical face mask now being used during the COVID-19 pandemic has confirmed an unknown contamination.
Dr. Charlie Ward says the simple random exam included a disposable box of surgical face masks and a digital microscope that magnifies from 40 to 60 times on his laptop computer. The results were a bit of a surprise, revealing a mystery black fiber of unknown origin and composition that, at one point, continued to move on its own even after the tester breathed into the mask!
Ward’s first thoughts: Is it inherent with material? Is it safe? The danger he says, is the fibers are loose on the surface and you could possibly get them on your lips and ingest them. Here’s more with Dr. Ward.
