The Spear Of Destiny
Edge of Wonder TV launches a new television series, The Relics of Power, with this documentary called The Spear of Destiny. This was the spear that supposedly pierced the side of Christ at the Crucifixion. It was first discovered in June 1098 during the First Crusade by Christian Crusaders at Antioch. The recovery of the relic inspired the Crusaders to take the offensive against the Muslims, routing them in battle and securing Christian possession of Antioch, a city within Turkey along the border with Syria.
Disputes about the authenticity of the lance, however, caused internal dissension among the Crusaders. Its discoverer, Peter Bartholomew, was eventually discredited.
The Spear of Destiny delves into efforts by the Nazis under Adolf Hitler to locate this relic. Hitler believed its possession would ensure power for the Nazis. This is a 10-minute excerpt.
