Australia’s Orwellian Law
Well, they finally did it! In a disturbing move that can only be described as Orwellian, the Australian Senate has passed the Surveillance Legislation Amendment that will severely intrude on the rights of citizens Down Under. Also known as the Identify and Disrupt Bill, the legislation grants the Australian Federal Police and the Criminal Intelligence Commission the power to modify, add, copy or delete data on a person’s online accounts.
Translation: The feds can basically spy on their citizens, do whatever they please with Aussie social media accounts, without the account holder’s permission. Here’s the reaction from a disappointed Instagrammer, courtesy of Chembuster.
