National Guard Shot In DC
An Afghan national has been identified as the gunman who fired Wednesday afternoon on two National Guardsmen patrolling the streets of Washington D.C., CBS News reported.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the 29-year-old suspect, is under arrest after coming around a corner and shooting two Guardsmen, on foot, patrolling in the vicinity of 17th Street and I Street about a mile from the White House. FBI Director Kash Patel says the two officers — both from West Virginia — are in critical condition.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser called the shootings “targeted.” The suspect came into the country on Sept. 8, 2021 under the auspices of Joe Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome, set up in the aftermath of the fall of Afghanistan.
A Guardsman armed with a knife stabbed the suspect and another Guardsman shot the culprit. Here’s more from CBS News.
