The American “Cheetahs”
Palaeontologists have analyzed the genetics of the so-called American ‘cheetah’ – Miracinonyx trumani – an extinct big cat that stalked North America until about 16 thousand years ago.
They confirm that it’s officially not a cheetah, and is instead related to the cougar. It also once lived in the Arctic, much further north than we’d ever previously realized. Here’s more from 7 Days Of Science.
