Theo Gray, author of Mad Science and a PopSci columnist, demonstrates a homemade device he calls “the Flaming Bacon Lance of Death.” Using an air hose and his lance, he cuts through sheet metal, proving that bacon is stronger than steel. (Fairness in advertising: Gray’s lance doesn’t technically use bacon, but instead thin strips of prosciutto). In a sop to political correctness, he also shows off his Vegan Thermic Lance, built from a cucumber and vegetable-oil coated breadsticks.
