Egghead Rides Again

Here’s a 1937 Merrie Melodies cartoon from Warner Brothers that introduced Egghead, sort of a forerunner to Elmer Fudd. Tex Avery (listed in the credits as Fred Avery) directed the short, with an uncredited Mel Blanc supplying the vocals for Egghead. Blanc had already done the vocals for Porky Pig but hadn’t yet brought us Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck or Barney Rubble. The cowpokes out in Wahoo, Wyoming, are actually played by the singing group: Sons of the Pioneers. More from the OldHorseman.

A Merry Fleischer Christmas

Liberals might be trying to ban every Christmas carol and Yuletide practice, but none of that bah humbug applies here at Stormy. We celebrate Christmas and bask in the spirit of warmth the holiday brings at the coldest time of the year.

Here, for your amusement, we offer Christmas Comes But Once a Year, an original 1936 color cartoon from Fleischer Studios, working under the auspices of Paramount. The storyline: Orphans get broken toys for Christmas, so Professor Grampy comes to the rescue.
