Magellan Vs. The 12-Foot Giants
The Magellan expedition was a Spanish journey led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, which departed from Spain in 1519 and culminated, in 1522, with the first circumnavigation of the world.
The fleet completed the first Pacific crossing, stopping in the Philippines, where Magellan encountered a race of 12-foot giants. The following is a translated account of the riveting journey from the journals of scholar and explorer, Antonio Pigafetta, courtesy of 99 Percent.
