The family of Egypt’s ousted president has lashed out at the military, accusing the generals of kidnapping Mohammed Morsi, who has been detained incommunicado in an unknown location for nearly three weeks.The statement by Morsi’s family at a Cairo press conference underlined the unknown fate of Egypt’s first freely elected president. Morsi has not been seen and has had no known contact with lawyers, family or supporters since the military ousted him in a coup on July 3.

Death Toll Rising in Egypt

Fighting between supporters and opponents of deposed President Mohammed Morsi on Friday resulted in the death of at least two dozen demonstrators in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt’s two largest cities. Egyptian Military Ousts Morsi

The head of the Egyptian army has appeared live on state television to announce the suspension of the constitution. General Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, flanked by religious and military leaders, said the chief justice of constitutional court would take the powers of the presidency. The announcement means President Mohammed Morsi is no longer in power. Anti-Morsi protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square gave out a huge cheer in response to the speech, which follows four days of huge nationwide street protests against Morsi, who refused to negotiate with his detractors.

Here’s the latest such bold forecast, from Egyptian cleric Abu Islam, who says the Flag of Islam will soon fly over the White House. He also outlines a tidy scheme to share power in Egypt, a plan that carves out different niches and turfs for the Muslim Brotherhood, Salafists and other Islamic groups, while excluding everyone else from power. Natch!
