New Flareups Stall Iran Peace
Operation Project Freedom kicks into gear as the United States Navy seeks to secure safe transit by oil tankers and other ships through the Straits of Hormuz. The Iranian Navy has been decimated and most of its units laying mines in the Persian Gulf have been destroyed.
But ships serving U.S. allies continue to be fired upon, limiting transport to the Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Will Operation Project Freedom end this latest wrinkle in the conflict, or spur renewed fighting? Too early to predict.
