The Future of Section 230
Section 230 is the section of federal law, administered by the Federal Communications Commission, that protects the Big Tech platforms from being sued for all sorts of legal infractions involving copyright violations, pornography and the like. Now President Donald Trump is pushing to end Section 230 to punish Big Tech because it has engaged in heinous and transparently political censorship.
Here, Styxhexenhammer666 makes like Nostradamus and projects the future. He sees Big Tech going along with President Trump and agreeing to have Section 230 repealed. Why? Because Big Tech soon will have expensive Artificial Intelligence software, or AI, that will remove videos violating the terms of service issues covered by Section 230. Big Tech will be able to afford that AI software. Smaller, Alt Tech platforms won’t be able to afford the software, so they are the ones more likely to get sued more often. Eventually, they’ll give up and get gobbled up.
Already, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, is signaling he might accept changing 230. All we can say is: Who remembers when Google’s motto was “Don’t be evil?” How times have changed.
