Baldwin Indicted In ‘Rust’ Case
A Santa Fe, N.M., grand jury has indicted Alec Baldwin on a new involuntary manslaughter charge in connection with the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust in 2021.
Baldwin was previously charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023, but the charge was dropped with prejudice. Hutchins died from a gunshot discharged by Baldwin at the Bonanza Creek Ranch film set, southeast of Santa Fe. Director Joel Souza was wounded in the incident.
Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted. More from The Quartering.
(Editor’s note: Meanwhile, in a related story reported by Variety, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer on the set of Rust who is awaiting trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence, was offered leniency by the prosecutor if she would offer more details on how live rounds made it onto the set.
Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey said Gutierrez Reed’s cooperation would go a long way in helping her get a favorable resolution in the case, however, she added, there would be consequences if she refused.
