Embattled Major League Baseball legend and all-time hits king Pete Rose, 83, died Monday at his Las Vegas home. The Clark County medical examiner confirmed Rose’s death to ABC News.
Rose spent the majority of his iconic career with the Cincinnati Reds where he won World Series titles in 1975 and 1976, and won a third championship with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980. He ended career as a member of the Montreal Expos. Rose also was a 17-time National League All-Star and won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1973.
Nicknamed “Charlie Hustle” for his firebrand style on the field, Rose went on to manage the Reds later in his career, but was banned from Major League Baseball in 1989 after an investigation revealed he had bet on baseball, all but ending his bid to enter the MLB Hall of Fame.
