According to Greek mythology, Atlantis is described as a naval empire that ruled all Western parts of the known world from an island somewhere in the Atlantic. Mentioned in Plato’s works Timaeus and Critias, the Atlantean story was passed down to the Greeks via the ancient Egyptians.
