Iran Now Playing With Fire

Victor Davis Hanson is breaking down what may be one of the most important strategic moments of President Donald Trump’s second term. With multiple U.S. carrier groups positioned near Iran and reports of additional naval and amphibious forces heading toward the region, the big question for Hanson is whether Trump is preparing for a major confrontation, rotating exhausted carrier groups, or simply reinforcing the blockade around Iran.

Hanson also examines the strange contradiction in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil shipments are reportedly moving closer to pre-war levels, yet Iran continues threatening and attacking commercial shipping.

Why provoke President Trump when the United States has gone weeks without launching another major attack? Hanson considers whether Tehran may actually want a dramatic American response that sends oil and gasoline prices higher and creates political pain before the midterms. Here’s more from Stephen Gardner.
