The Heist You Never Heard Of
One night in 1971, files were stolen from an FBI office, near Philadelphia. The files proved that the bureau was spying on thousands of Americans.
Retro Report, presented by The New York Times, lays out how many Americans were tapped, bugged and had their mail opened by the FBI and CIA. The perpetrators of the heist, who escaped with secret documents, were never caught and details have remained a mystery until now. Those secret records would bring an end to J. Edgar Hoover’s clandestine activities with the FBI.
