The Sea of Fire

MIDNITE MARTINI

Midnite Martini bills herself as “The Mile High Flying Tease.” That’s not only because she’s based in the mile-high state of Colorado, but also trumpets the fact that aerial performance is central to her act. She says her recipe “consists of the most delectable ABC’s — aerial, burlesque and circus — all finely shaken into a perfect combination of entertainment, sass and tease.”

Born in South Korea, but raised in Denver, she’s the inventor of what she calls “the Midnite Finger Fan Dance.” She also is a co-producer of the Colorado Burlesque Festival. Here she performs “The Nasty,” an aerial fabric burlesque, at the 2012 festival.

You’d all be crying foul if we didn’t show you the Finger Fan Dance. Martini hasn’t posted a video showing the full dance, but this provocative teaser ought to give you a good feel for what she’s created.

North Korea’s Hunger Games

We hear a lot about North Korean rocket launches and nuclear threats. But what about the living conditions of the North Korean people? Now, rumors of cannibalism are emerging, tales of families so starved they’ve been forced to eat their children. The secretive country is neither confirming nor denying the reports, but some sources say a famine has claimed up to 10,000 lives. H/T Next Media Animation
