UK Grants Assange Reprieve

Josh Sigurdson is reporting that a UK court has granted Wikileaks journalist Julian Assange a temporary reprieve from extradition to the United States.

The court called for a temporary reprieve in order to seek U.S. assurance that the extradition is not being carried out for political reasons, which would be technically illegal in itself. Assange, who has been detained in a London prison for the last five years, faces possible charges of treason or espionage that come with the death penalty for publishing basic facts showing evidence of war crimes committed by the U.S. government.
