Once in a Lifetime Events

There are many events throughout human history that are tagged with the “once in a lifetime” moniker, most likely to never happen again. Among them was the last public execution in the United States.

On August 14, 1936, black man Rainey Bethea was hanged in Owensboro, Kentucky, before a throng of 20,000 for raping a white woman. Public outrage over the manner of execution, which included numerous errors and a media circus, led the United States to abandon public executions. Tune in to this edition of Top Tenz for nine other events that we’ll most likely never see again.
