Jefferson Never Forgave Them

Did you know that the original draft of the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, contained a fiery passage that outlawed slavery and laid the blame for the atrocious practice squarely at the feet of King George III? But when the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Second Continental Congress, meeting in a hot and sealed-off chambers in Philadelphia in July of 1776, the delegates representing the 13 colonies wrestled over the document tooth and comb, and the passage abolishing slavery was thrown out, mostly owing to the objections of the delegates from Georgia and South Carolina.
