Go! Girl! Go! — Neuve

Chelo Alonso as the Persian Queen Smedes attempts to seduce the hero Maciste, played by Mark Forest, in the 1960 Son of Samson. While it’s hard to say how a Persian queen has mastered belly dancing, perhaps she picked it up in Egypt. The Persians have invaded and subjugated the Egyptians. Queen Smedes rules over the territory and has been rounding up women to sell as slaves, incurring the wrath of Maciste — a strongman character who has appeared in some 50 movies as a sort of all-purpose copycat of Hercules.

Born Isabella Garcia in Cuba, Chelo Alonso often played an evil queen or temptress in the sword and sandal movies popular in the 1950s and 1960s. A star dancer of Cuba’s National Theatre, known for her sensual, exotic style, she joined the Folies Bergere in Paris in 1957, where she was billed as “The Cuban H-Bomb.” Often starring opposite Forest and fellow bodybuilder Steve Reeves, her films included The Pirate and the Slave Girl, Sheba and the Gladiator, and Goliath and the Barbarians.

Porn Threatens Pullout

The porn industry failed this week in its bid to stop Measure B — the Los Angeles County Condom Initiative. Voters, by a margin of 55 to 45 percent, passed the initiative requiring XXX performers to wear condoms for their sex scenes. The measure also will set up a squad of health inspectors to periodically drop by the movie sets — unannounced — to enforce the requirement.

What next? Porn vows it won’t take the setback lying down. Some industry leaders are considering whether to vacate Los Angeles County and the San Fernando Valley that has long been the industry’s home. Where might they go? Neighboring Riverside and Ventura counties have been mentioned as possibilities. Another option: New Hampshire, where XXX filming is permitted. Guess that would put a new twist on the state’s motto: Live Free or Die.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: This video has vanished from YouTube. In its absence, here’s a look at the Measure B election from Reason.TV).

FCC On the Way Out?

“I’m very confident a hundred years from now we won’t have an FCC,” says Thomas Hazlett, Reason contributor and George Mason economics professor.

Internet service providers are coming under scrutiny from both the FCC and net neutrality supporters who want to ensure unrestricted consumer access to the Web. However, Hazlett points out that the fear over ISPs limiting Web content is unfounded and government “has no idea what the optimal business model is” to effectively regulate.

Hazlett sat down with Reason TV’s Nick Gillespie to discuss net neutrality, the Internet, and and his Encounters Broadside book The Fallacy of Net Neutrality.

Pilots Must Pass Body Odor Test

As a part of its interview process for potential pilots, Hainan Airlines in China has inspectors sniff under the candidates’ armpits for body odor. Those that stink are rejected on grounds that they might not be able to properly handle stress and also could turn off passengers. H/T Geobeats

Odessa Girls

Odessa, on the frontier of the former Soviet Union, has become the seedy new tourist magnet for American men of all ages. The attraction: The city in the Ukraine has a seemingly endless supply of beautiful young, single women. Julia’s situation is typical of many. Following an abusive marriage, she signed up with one of the many local agencies that offer the chance to be paired up with hopefuls from abroad. “I’m already too old for the men here… Getting a man here is very competitive, because there are so few of them,” says Julia, living in a city where women outnumber men almost five to four.

But despite accusations of being little more than a legalized pimping service, clients such as Arthur, a 65 year-old veteran of six romance tours, have no qualms with the service they offer. “It’s like purchasing a very nice used Cadillac,” he explains. “I need to drive it before I make a decision about taking it home and putting it in my garage.” H/T Journeyman Pictures

Pundit So Glad for Hurricane

Hurricane Sandy killed more than 100 people, wiped out entire beachfront communities, knocked out power for millions, and left New York City and much of New Jersey in a shambles. But Chris Matthews, MSNBC’s loony tunes Leftist pundit, audaciously admits “I’m so glad we had that storm last week,” because it offered an advantageous political platform for Matthews’ tingle-worthy idol, the President-cum-Messiah.

Someone should have shut this fool up, but in a roundabout way, it’s good he was allowed to blather on. Certainly erases any pretense that he’s a real journalist, when in fact, he’s just another Progressive propagandist.
