Blow Up Your TV

Throw away your paper. Go to the country, build you a home.

Joe Dan Gorman echoes the “Spanish Pipedream” lyrics of John Prine in this edition of Intellectual Froglegs. We can’t control what liberals do, but we do have control over our own actions. And Joe Dan is all for flipping the bird to the TV networks and Hollywood bitchachos who paved the way for President Obama’s re-election through their biased coverage and campaign contributions. How best can conservatives influence these Leftist house organs? Don’t consume their products.

The Last Generation

Zabno, a small town in southern Poland, was a haven for Jewish families until WWII broke out. In this report, we hear the disturbing stories of people who experienced Nazi cruelty first hand and see just how fresh the wounds left by the Final Solution still are.

Although many Jewish people from Zabno were transported to concentration camps such as Belzec, this moving film focuses on those who were left behind — murdered in their own gardens and buried in unmarked graves, and the lucky few that managed to escape. But were they really lucky? Through startling and frank accounts of their experiences, a small group of surviving women recount how they suffered terrible beatings at German hands and watched with horror as their families were taken away to their deaths. H/T Journeyman Pictures

Go! Girl! Go! — Diez

Cyd Charisse dances to “Frankie and Johnny,” sung by Sammy Davis Jr., in Meet Me in Las Vegas. Charisse’s legs were reportedly insured for $1 million apiece by MGM, although that was most likely a stunt cooked up by the publicity department. She not only is considered the greatest female Hollywood dancer of all time, but she also holds the distinction of being the only one to partner with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. She dances with John Brascia in this scene, playing the ill-fated cheater destined for a fiery fate.

Charisse died in 2008, but her influence lingers. Here, Australian burlesque dancer Miss Skopalova pays homage to Charisse with a performance inspired by the “Frankie and Johnny” routine.

CIA Director Drops Bombshell

The resignation of David Petraeus as director of the Central Intelligence Agency raises questions. Not so much about the extramarital affair that led to him stepping down, but rather about the timing of the resignation and whether he was forced to leave.

It’s most curious the announcement came just after the election and just ahead of Petraeus’ scheduled testimony before Congress on the Benghazi mess. It’s doubly curious because the affair apparently happened while the former four-star general served as commander in Afghanistan, more than a year ago. Why did news of the affair surface at this particular juncture, and what compelled the FBI to launch an investigation of Paula Broadwell, author of the biography All In: The Education of General David Petraeus?

Widespread news reports have identified Broadwell as Petraeus’ mistress, although neither she nor the general have acknowledged that assertion as fact. Without spelling out any further particulars, Petraeus’ resignation letter declared,  “After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours.”

Broadwell herself is married, but was embedded (adding new meaning to the term) with Petraeus while he was serving in Afghanistan and she was researching her book. Here is an interview Broadwell gave this past March with CBS News upon the book’s release.

Unemployment Downplayed

This just in…The unemployment rate has increased to 7.9 percent. That’s a higher rate than when President Obama first took office. “The Liberal media would have reported it, but they stashed it with the Fast and Furious and Benghazi files,” says Jodi Miller. She also touches on Hurricane Sandy, unwed mothers, the Los Angeles Lakers and Yoko Ono in this edition of NewsBusted.

Puerto Rico Favors Statehood

Puerto Rican voters on Tuesday approved a referendum advocating statehood. But the situation remains complicated. Many voters did not state a preference and others prefer Puerto Rico’s current status, maintaining a sovereign free association with the United States. Few Puerto Ricans these days favor independence.

Another issue: Before Puerto Rico could become the 51st US state, Congress would need to approve, and the President sign off on the bill. Reallocating four or five Congressional seats to Puerto Rico would mean fewer districts in California, New York and Texas, so there could be political ramifications.

Here’s a recap from Taiwan’s Next Media Animation.
