Al-Qaeda’s First Attack

On August 7, 1998, Nairobi was bustling and busy as usual, until at 10.45am, an explosion tore through the American Embassy situated in the heart of the capital killing hundreds of people. The attacks were linked to local members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and resulted in the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation placing bin Laden on its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

Iraq Busts Terror Cell

Iraq’s Defense Ministry has busted up an alleged al-Qaeda cell that was attempting to produce chemical weapons. Reporters in Baghdad were shown four of the alleged suspects, who were hooded, and a table displaying beakers and jars said to contain chemicals used in the manufacture of sarin and mustard gas.

British Killer Linked to al-Qaeda

One of the two men arrested on suspicion of murdering a British soldier in London was arrested in Kenya in 2010 and arraigned in court before the Kenyan government deported him back to the United Kingdom. Michael Adebolajo was accused in Kenya of seeking training with al-Qaeda-linked militant group al-Shabaab in Somalia.

Terrorists on Trial in Canada

The two men accused of plotting what officials say was an al-Qaeda-supported terrorist attack on a train have appeared in Canadian court. Raed Jaser, and Chiheb Esseghaier face charges of conspiring “to murder uknown persons… for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a terrorist group.”
