Lift EPA’s Ban on Jack Benny

Remember the good, old days when gasoline costs less than a buck and you’d still get full-service, red-carpet treatment from your Texaco man?

Well, now the national average gasoline price is $3.87 — more than double what it was when President Obama took office in 2009. And to add insult to injury, his bureaucratic goons in the Environmental Protection Agency have issued a new mandate requiring consumers to buy at least four gallons when purchasing from stations with hoses containing 10 percent and 15 percent ethanol-blended fuel.

WTF? What purpose does that mandate serve? What if you only need a gallon or two for your lawnmower or scooter? What if you’ve broken down on the highway and are down to your last $10, enough money to buy enough gas to get you started but less than the EPA mandate? And what if you’re Jack Benny, exercising your constitutional right to frugality, by only purchasing one gallon at a time?

The Chic Sham

Lush, a British-based cosmetics firm that makes millions selling soaps, shampoos and bathroom sundries to women, has launched a campaign against expansion of Canada’s oil sands industry. Polling stations at all 44 Lush stores in Canada encourage women to petition against oil tanker and pipeline proposals that would enable the oil sands industry to increase its rate of extraction from 1.5 to 7 million barrels of oil per day.

You might ask why would any rational cosmetic company get involved in a controversy over energy policy, but Lush has butted in on the basis that it’s an ethical company, having previously taken stands targeting animal testing and promoting fair trade with developing nations. There’s only one problem with the company’s position. It’s all a sham, grounded upon unethical quicksands.

Lush also happens to hawk its cosmetics in Saudi Arabia, where the company has remained totally silent not only on matters pertaining to oil production but also relating to the abysmal treatment of women as second-class citizens. No small hypocrisy, eh? H/T Blazing Cat Fur
